Anthony Paul Kennedy Shriver was born on July 20, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the youngest child of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver, and a nephew of President John F. Kennedy. Anthony attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1988. It was during his time at Georgetown that he took the initiative that would define his life's work — founding Best Buddies International in 1989.
Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization Anthony founded to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. What began as a student organization at Georgetown has grown into one of the most far-reaching disability inclusion organizations in the world, operating in more than 50 countries and reaching millions of participants.
The mission of Best Buddies reflects the Kennedy-Shriver family's multigenerational commitment to people with intellectual disabilities — a commitment that traces directly to Eunice Kennedy Shriver's founding of the Special Olympics in 1968, itself inspired by her sister Rosemary Kennedy. Anthony has served as Chairman of Best Buddies since its founding, building the organization into a global institution that fundamentally challenges how societies integrate people with disabilities into employment and community life.
Anthony is married to Alina Mojica. He continues to lead Best Buddies from its headquarters in Miami, Florida.
