She is the granddaughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics, and Sargent Shriver. Her father Timothy has served as Chairman of Special Olympics International, carrying forward the organization his mother founded. Sophia has since married and is known by the surname Newbert.
