Edwin Arthur Schlossberg

Edwin Arthur Schlossberg was born on July 19, 1945, in New York City, the son of a textile manufacturer. He earned a bachelor's degree and, unusually, a doctorate in both science and literature from Columbia University, and worked with Buckminster Fuller and John Cage before founding ESI Design in 1977. The firm became a pioneer of interactive museum exhibits and public installations, from the Brooklyn Children's Museum to Ellis Island and the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. He has written or co-written more than a dozen books.

Marriage to Caroline Kennedy

Schlossberg married Caroline Kennedy on July 19, 1986, his 41st birthday, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, Massachusetts, with Ted Kennedy walking the bride down the aisle in place of her late father. Thirteen years older than his wife and famously private, he has stayed largely out of public view through her career as an author, U.S. Ambassador to Japan and Ambassador to Australia.

The couple have three children: Rose (born 1988), Tatiana (1990–2025) and Jack (1993), the only grandchildren of President Kennedy. Their daughter Tatiana died of acute myeloid leukemia on December 30, 2025.
