Katherine Berner Kennedy was born in 1990, the eldest daughter of Christopher George Kennedy and Sheila Sinclair Berner. She is the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel Kennedy. Her middle name Berner honors her mother's family. Her father Christopher served as Chairman of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees and ran in the 2018 Illinois Democratic gubernatorial primary. Katherine has maintained a private life in keeping with most members of her generation of the Kennedy family.
