Gabriella McKean was born in 2013, the daughter of Maeve Kennedy McKean and David McKean. She is the great-granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel Kennedy. In April 2020, when Gabriella was six years old, her mother Maeve and her older brother Gideon both drowned in the Chesapeake Bay when their canoe capsized. Gabriella survived that period and has been raised in the care of her father David McKean and extended family.
